BU Cross Country Teams Compete at NCAA Northeast Regional Meet

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Freshman Cal Michaels was 85th overall in the men’s race while junior Lindsay Raulli was the top BU finisher in the women’s event, highlighting the Binghamton cross country teams’ performances at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet, which was hosted on Saturday afternoon by the University of Buffalo. The Bearcat men placed 22nd out of 33 competing teams while the women’s squad was 22nd out of 36 teams. Michaels covered the 10,000-meter course in a time of 33:22. Junior Vasili Papastrat came in 95th (33:29) while fellow junior Jason Santos was 114th (33:44) and freshman Matt Johnson was 116th (33:45). There were 240 runners in the men’s race, which was won by Leonard Korir of Iona (31:01). Syracuse and Iona finished one-two in the team standings to earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championship, which will be held Nov. 21 at Indiana State. Raulli, meanwhile, was Binghamton’s top women’s finisher at the meet for the second year in a row. She placed 103rd overall, covering the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:04.1. Right behind her was graduate student Ashley Horton, who was 104th (23:04.9). There were 243 runners in the women’s race, which was captured by Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth (20:25). Syracuse and Boston College were the top two teams in the women’s race. Binghamton will conclude its 2011 season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships next Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park.
